Fiscal Identification Number for Foreigners (N.I.E.)
Foreigners that, due to their financial, professional or social interests, are related to Spain, shall have for their identification, a personal, unique and exclusive number, of sequential character.
The afore mentioned number shall be used to identify the foreigner, and should figure on every document that is issued to the person, such as diligences that are stamped on the passport or analogue document.
This number issued automatically by the General Police Direction, shall not habilitate the person to reside in Spain, but shall be necessary in order to put in to effect any transaction in Spain, this being, purchase of cars, property, open a bank account, establish a company, payment of taxes, etc...
There are three ways to apply for an NIE number:
1. If you are in Spanish territory
You can personally go to the police station of the place where you live and comply with two requirements:

Not being in an irregular situation in Spain.

Documents prooving the reason for application.
Necessary documentation to be prestented:

Printed-filled in application form.
- Photocopy of original valid passport.
- Two passport size photographs
2. If you are in your country of residency.
Go to your nearest Spanish consulate or embassy, with documentation that proves your reason for NIE application.

3. If you are not in Spanish territory and it is impossible for you to go to a Spanish consulate or embassy
There is a possibility of our lawyers applying for you NIE number via a Special power of attorney habilitated for this purpose.
Documentation our Lawyer would need:

Power of attorney translated and apostilled by the Haya in favour of our assigned lawyer that shall apply for NIE on your behalf.
- Two passport size photographs.
- Copy of passport certified by the Consulate or embassy.
